2010 Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life - South Mobile County - is Friday, May 7, 2010 at Theodore High School track and football field. This year our Relay is going to be special in many ways; we are going be walking from 2:00 p.m. Friday until 2:00 am Saturday morning - symbolizing the fact that cancer never sleeps.

Our Relay is being dedicated to Caleb Mosley, a student at Causey Middle School.  For the past several years he has worked very hard raising money for the Relay since his surgery for brain cancer, he received the award for the most raised by an individual.

This year he will not be able to help us since he is once again undergoing chemo treatment for cancer which has returned.  We want Caleb to know that we are praying for his recovery

The Theodore/Tillman's Corner Volunteer Fire Department has joined the Relay and will be fundraising in memory of their late Fire chief, James Shelly, who lost his life to cancer in October 2009.  The Firemen will have a big Slide and Jumps for the kids as well a "real" fire truck at the Relay.  They will also be holding out some "boots" on the streets raising funds to fight cancer - so let's help them fill 'em up!!  We've got to keep fighting cancer

There will be lots of activities for the entire family at the Relay, just to name a few;  smoked rib dinners, bar-b-q sandwiches, hamburgers, hotdogs, cokes, ice cream cones and sundaes, snow cones, putt-putt, football toss (winner receives a new set of tires!) cake walks, bingo, Relay Idol winners singing, "Go Fish", wheelbarrow races and lots more!

At 9:45 p.m. there will be a slide show in memory of those lost to cancer and in honor or cancer survivors.  At 10:00 p.m. the track will be lighted only with luminaria bags whioch will each be in memory of, or in honor of, family members and friends touched by cancer.  At this time there will be a solemn procession by everyone around the track with inspirational music provided by the Harmony Ridge Quartet.  At 10:30 Memory Balloons will be released.  Breakfast will be served at midnight.  You singers, come and Karaoke to your heart's content from midnight til 2:00 am when the Closing Ceremony will be held.

Relay for Life is also a great way for people to meet other survivors in their own community. In many communities, survivors form their own teams, join the Relay committee, or volunteer for the American Cancer Society in other ways.
